Residents of Patang Village in the Ga East Municipality have threatened to stage a demonstration and boycott the 2028 general election over the deteriorating condition of roads in the area.

According to the residents, the roads have become nearly impassable, especially during the rainy season, due to alleged encroachment on the Dakobi River by private developers.

They claim the encroachment has altered the river’s natural course, leading to erosion and the weakening of sections of the road along the Dakobi stretch, which has worsened access to the community.

Speaking to Citi News, the residents accused the Ga East Municipal Assembly and the La Nkwantanang-Madina Municipal Assembly, which share jurisdiction over the river, of issuing permits to developers despite the environmental and infrastructural impact.

Frustrated by what they describe as years of neglect, some residents warned they would boycott future elections if their concerns are not addressed.

“Anyone who dares bring a ballot box here during the next general election will incur our wrath,” one resident said.

The residents are therefore calling on the relevant authorities to urgently intervene to restore the roads and address the alleged encroachment on the river.
