The National Association of Institutional Suppliers (NAIS) has announced plans to stage a picket at the Ministry of Education on June 11, 2026, over delays in the payment of outstanding debts owed to its members under the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) programme.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, June 3, the association said the planned protest is aimed at drawing attention to the government’s failure to settle about GH¢50 million owed to suppliers of school uniforms, house dresses and school cloths delivered to public senior high schools.
According to NAIS, members have not been paid for supplies delivered since 2023, despite several engagements with the relevant authorities and repeated appeals for the release of funds.
The association said the prolonged delay has placed significant financial pressure on suppliers, many of whom are struggling to sustain their businesses while awaiting payment.
“The picketing aims not only to draw the government’s attention to our plight but also to urge the immediate release of funds owed to NAIS members,” the statement said.
NAIS noted that the outstanding payments are affecting the operations of suppliers and could undermine their ability to continue supporting the Free SHS programme.
The association expressed hope that the planned demonstration would highlight the urgency of the situation and prompt swift government action to settle the debts.
It also appealed to the media to cover the protest to amplify its concerns and bring the issue to the attention of policymakers and the general public.
