Tensions flared at Gomoa Nyanyano in the Gomoa East District of the Central Region as angry residents and commercial drivers hooted and heckled the Member of Parliament for Gomoa East, Desmond De-Graft Kwesi Paitoo, over the deteriorating condition of the Kasoa–Nyanyano road.

The residents accused successive governments of failing to fulfil repeated promises to rehabilitate the road, which serves Gomoa Nyanyano and surrounding communities with a combined population of more than 100,000 people.

According to the residents, the road has become a death trap, making transportation difficult and posing a serious risk to motorists and pedestrians.

They further alleged that the contractor working on the project abandoned the site after the government failed to release the required mobilisation funds.

The incident occurred when the MP visited the area after participating in the National Sanitation Day exercise. Some residents and taxi drivers reportedly confronted him, hooting and shouting at him over the poor state of the road. The situation became tense before police officers intervened and escorted the MP away from the crowd.

Speaking to Adom News, the residents appealed to President John Dramani Mahama and the Minister for Roads and Highways to urgently intervene and ensure the completion of the Kasoa–Nyanyano road.

Some also warned that public frustration could intensify if work on the road does not resume.

Responding to the incident, Mr. Paitoo acknowledged that residents expressed their anger during his visit.

He assured the community that he would continue engaging the relevant authorities to ensure the road project is completed before the 2028 general elections.
