The police intend to stop a planned demonstration Monday by residents along Madina-Adenta Highway over abandoned footbridges linking the suburb to Aburi.

The protest is due to the rampant fatal accidents on the road which has resulted in several deaths of pedestrians.

So far, 195 people have been killed on the highway that has no road signs and functioning streetlights since it was constructed about a decade ago.

As residents mass up to stage the peaceful demonstration in spite of government’s assurance to fix the footbridges, the police claim organizers fail to notify them.

Police in Adenta have therefore resolved not to allow residents to stage the peaceful walK.

Meanwhile, organizers of the peaceful walk also claim they got police clearance to proceed with their action.
