Police officers sent to arrest a suspect were nearly lynched after the suspect and some others attacked them at Kporju near Sawla in the Northern Region.
One officer, Cpl Kumi, told Adom News’ Rebecca Natoma that they were dispatched to cause the arrest of one Guohin at Kporju, a community in the Sawla/Tuna/Kalba District when the attack happened.
Guohin was alleged to have stolen some cattle from a ranch belonging to one Mr. Torh Vuur, the complainant, a month ago.

Following his complaint, three police officers including Cpl Kumi were dispatched to cause Guohin’s arrest but upon getting to the home of the suspect he refused to open his door.
When Cpl Kumi tried to forcibly enter and cause his arrest, Guohin allegedly attacked and clobbered him down before he was later joined by others from the town to continue with the beating.
In the process, the other officers who feared for their lives ran away, leaving Cpl Kumi whose AK47 assault gun, two mobile phones, his wedding ring, handcuffs, motorbike keys and room keys, touch light and police boots were taken by the attackers.

It took the intervention of an old man, according to Cpl Kumi, who reminded the attackers of the happenings in Denkyira Obuasi and the ramifications of their actions, before he was released and his, gun and one other gun ceased from one of his colleagues was returned to him.
The complainant was also beaten and given a cut on his head as a result of the beatings received from the town attackers.

The injured officer together with the farmer is currently receiving treatment at the Sawla District Capital Polyclinic.
The Sawla District police are, as a result of the incidence, pleading with government and their superiors to cause their immediate transfer from the area.
Meanwhile, the Police Commander of the District, Mr. O.K Boateng says investigations are ongoing.
