Residents living around Pantang in Accra have embarked on a demonstration to register their displeasure over a dumping cite behind the Pantang Mental Hospital.
Led by the Chairman of Landlords Association of Pantang, Johnson Quarshie, the demonstrators, by their action, wanted the Ga East Municipal Assembly, Abokobi to halt, with immediate effect, any form of dumping at the Pantang dump site.

Clad in red attire, the demonstrators, marched from the various parts of the community to present a petition to the Assembly.
Mr Quarshie said the resources at the Pantang Hospital were overstretched, having to attend to the many patients who reported at the facility with malaria, cholera and other illnesses.

He said the hospital recorded not less than 200 cholera cases a month, saying the disease had become a grave health concern to all residents.

Residents who have had to endure the repulsive stench from the dump have made several complaints to the city authorities to no avail.

They therefore decided to hit the streets to register their protest.
