Ghana Revenue Authorities have started confiscating goods without tax stamps from some shops in Accra.
The Deputy Commissioner at the Communication and Public Affairs Department, Kwasi Bobie explained that the move was to ensure full compliance with the Tax Stamp law.

There is a law that says manufacturers of products should have tax stamps on them to identify original goods from fake ones.
The GRA by 1st March ordered producers of various products to ensure they have stamps on their products before they are put on the market but some manufacturers have complained that the stamp machine was too expensive and not affordable.

The complaints led to revenue authorities giving some grace period so producers can buy the machine.

Subsequently, officials at the GRA decided to go on monitoring rounds to see how people were complying with the regulation.
Some of the shops visited include Melcom, GHOC, West Hills Mall and Max Mart all in the Greater Accra region.

Kwasi Bobie has therefore warned shop owners not to display items that have no tax stamps on them.

He also advised the general public and retailers to watch out for stamps on goods they intend to buy.
