MCE of Ga East Municipal, Janet Tulasi Mensah, says information gathered so far indicates someone intentionally set the market ablaze.
She told Adom News Kwame Kulenu that she had a meeting with the women yesterday to hand over a part of the market that has been reconstructed to them and during the process some traders in the market who were not happy that the construction has taken them off their usual trading places threatened that something will happen.

Janet Tulasi Mensah added that on the evening of the same day of the threat she had a call that the market was on fire so she believes someone has intentionally set the market on fire.
The Ga East Municipal Officer of National Disaster Management Organization, Set Osei Kusi, said they had begun assessment of the level of destruction of the fire and so far, about 60 people have been identified as having their properties burnt.
He also appealed to the victims to be calm, adding that assessment is still on-going to know the exact support they will be given.
Some market women also demonstrated against the authorities, saying anytime there is a fire outbreak in the market and reconstruction is done, the authorities neglect them and give the stores to their family members.
