People’s Pension Trust Ghana Limited has been adjudged winner in the Pensions Innovation Award of the Year Category at the 2019 Ghana Accountancy and Finance Awards.

The company received the recognition for successfully organizing a high-level international conference dubbed “People’s Pension Conference” in February 2019.

The event, the first of its kind since the pension reforms in 2010 brought together local and international pension players and policy makers to discuss best practices and innovative strategies required to boost Ghana’s pension sector.

Organised under the theme, “Private pension fund management – local standards vis-à-vis international best practices. What key lessons going forward?”, the deliberations focused on key challenges, trends, opportunities and insights in the local pension industry blended with learnings from countries that have successfully eradicated poverty with pension schemes.

Speaking on the award, CEO of People’s Pension Trust, Samuel Waterberg said “the recognition is evident of how relevant and impactful the conference was. The 8-point consensus that outlined issues like leveraging technology, policy interventions, deepening and enforcing regulations, pensions literacy among others is essential to the growth of the local pension industry and the adherence to international best practices.”

He added that he was particularly pleased about the educative and remarkable industry working visit to Netherlands, the world’s leading pension industry; which became necessary following the knowledge and expertise shared at the conference.

Communications Manager of People’s Pension Trust, Yaa Asamoah-Boateng on the other hand said, “at the heart of our values is innovation and that is why we are continuously leveraging on technology to develop programs and processes that will not only drive our agenda of ensuring future income security for all,  but which will also ensure that the industry evolves to keep up with changing trends and global best practices in the administration of pension in Ghana.”

The company was also earlier this year selected as a winner by Inclusive Fintech50 as one of 50 fintechs that are using innovation to drive financial inclusion in the world by expanding access, usage and quality of financial services in advanced and emerging markets.

People’s Pension Trust provides trustee services in both Tier 2 and 3 schemes and is focused on offering flexible and innovative pension products for the Ghanaian workers.
