After three years of uncertainty, Ahantaman has a new traditional ruler.
On Thursday, Busua came alive as Ben Ansah was officially enstooled and outdoored as Otumfour Badu Bonsu III, the new Ahantahene. The ceremony, led by the royal Akade family and Busua Stool kingmakers, brought to an end a three-year vacancy following the passing of the late Otumfour Badu Bonsu XV.
A Historic Procession
The coastal town was filled with drumming, colour and celebration as jubilant residents, elders, youth and traditional leaders lined the principal streets. Cheers erupted as the 30-year-old overlord, dressed in rich regalia, was carried through Busua in a grand palanquin procession before being ushered to the sacred stool shrine for customary rites that sealed his ascension.
Unity After Years Of Division
What made the enstoolment particularly remarkable was the consensus reached across all three gates of the royal family. Elders confirmed that every faction unanimously agreed on Ben Ansah, a businessman and entrepreneur, as the rightful successor. The rare agreement has been hailed as a restoration of unity and continuity in Ahantaman.
“This is a day of unity and peace for Ahantaman,” an elder said as singing and dancing continued into the evening.
New Leadership, New Expectations
At 30, Otumfour Badu Bonsu III brings youthful energy to one of the most revered stools in the Western Region. As a businessman, he now carries the hopes and aspirations of the Ahanta people for development while preserving their rich cultural heritage.
In line with tradition, the new Ahantahene is expected to announce dates for the final funeral rites and burial of his predecessor in the coming months. The royal family added that details regarding the choice of the stool name, Otumfour Badu Bonsu III, will be explained at the appropriate time.
For many in Busua, Thursday’s event was more than an installation ceremony. It symbolised the restoration of authority, culture and identity in Ahantaman — a historic moment that generations will remember with pride.
