Ghana’s Defence Attaché to Nigeria, Bright Kojo Atiayao, has paid a working visit to the Ghana Navy Ship (GNS) PRU following its successful arrival at the Nigeria Defence Jetty in Lagos ahead of the Nigerian Navy’s International Fleet Review (IFR) and maritime exercises.

The visit by the Defence Attaché is to formally welcome the vessel and engage its crew as they prepare to participate in activities marking the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

Commodore Atiayao was received on board by the Commanding Officer of GNS PRU, Lieutenant Commander Joshua Hughes Addison, together with other senior officers of the ship.

During the interaction, he commended the crew for their professionalism and safe voyage from Ghana to Nigeria, describing their performance as a reflection of discipline and dedication within the Ghana Navy.

He further encouraged the officers and ratings to maintain high standards of conduct throughout the exercise, stressing that they were representing not only the Ghana Navy but also the Republic of Ghana on an international platform.

According to him, the International Fleet Review presents a key opportunity to deepen maritime cooperation, strengthen interoperability, and reinforce long-standing naval relations between Ghana and participating countries.

Lieutenant Commander Addison expressed appreciation to the Defence Attaché for the visit and support, assuring him of the ship’s readiness to take part fully in the fleet review and related maritime exercises.

The GNS PRU, which departed the Naval Base in Sekondi on Thursday, arrived in Lagos on Friday, May 29, 2026, where it was warmly received by officials of the Nigerian Navy.

The vessel is among several international naval ships participating in the review at the Eko Atlantic Waterfront as part of the Nigerian Navy’s 70th anniversary celebrations.

The event is expected to bring together naval forces from different countries to showcase capabilities, strengthen cooperation, and promote regional maritime security collaboration.
