Former Ghana Football Association (GFA) chairman Dr Nyaho Nyaho-Tamakloe has called on Kurt Okraku to resign as president of the country’s football governing body following the Black Stars’ poor start to the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
Ghana have lost their opening two Group C matches, leaving them without a point and at the bottom of the standings.
The Black Stars began their campaign with a 2-0 defeat by Ivory Coast before suffering a 4-2 home loss to The Gambia on Tuesday.
Ghana had taken a 2-0 lead at the Accra Sports Stadium but were unable to hold on as the visitors scored four unanswered goals to complete a remarkable comeback.
Speaking to Citi FM, Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe said Mr Okraku should consider stepping down if he believes he has failed to deliver the expected results.
“If he feels that he [Kurt Okraku] has failed and he has the culture of resignation, then nobody will tell him he will resign by himself, as I did when I was there,” he said.
“If he is not coming up with good results, that’s why I use the word culture of resignation; there are certain things you don’t force on people.
“Either you do it, and then one will know exactly that this man is principled… he should just quit as others have done in the past,” he added.
Dr Nyaho-Tamakloe is remembered for resigning as GFA chairman, after which Kwesi Nyantakyi succeeded him.
The latest calls for Mr Okraku’s resignation come amid growing criticism of the GFA following Ghana’s difficult start to the AFCON qualifying campaign.
The Black Stars will return to action in November with a double-header against Somalia as they attempt to revive their hopes of qualifying for the tournament.
Ghana missed the 2025 AFCON in Morocco after finishing bottom of their qualifying group.
