A 36-year-old Nigerian man has been sentenced to 44 weeks in prison after exposing himself and masturbating in front of a woman on a train travelling through Cheshire towards Manchester Piccadilly in the United Kingdom.
Babatunde Odutola, who has no fixed address, was sentenced at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday, September 14, after pleading guilty to one count of outraging public decency and breaching a suspended sentence order.
The sentence came just three days after the incident, which occurred at about 7pm on Friday, September 11.
Odutola approached a woman who was travelling alone and allegedly looked her up and down in an intimidating manner before becoming aggressive when she refused to engage with him.
He then exposed himself while sitting in a wheelchair, masturbated while looking at the woman and told her to “come over”.
A fellow passenger subsequently helped the distressed woman leave the carriage.
CCTV footage showed Odutola continuing the act as other passengers moved through the carriage. Police were called and British Transport Police officers arrested him after the train arrived at Manchester Piccadilly.
British Transport Police Detective Constable Leonidas Christoforou described Odutola’s conduct as disturbing and said his behaviour must have been terrifying for the woman, whom he had singled out while she was travelling alone.
According to the officer, Odutola initially denied the allegations during a police interview but was confronted with CCTV footage and witness accounts before eventually pleading guilty.
The officer also said the incident was not an isolated case, noting that Odutola was already a registered sex offender.
He warned that such behaviour would not be tolerated on the railway and said the force remained committed to holding offenders accountable.
