President of New Edubiase United, Abdul Salam Yakubu, has confirmed that the club is being sold, saying he will explain the reasons behind the decision once the transaction is concluded.
The Division One League side recently announced plans to sell the club through an official promotional flyer inviting prospective investors to acquire the team.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s SportsNite, Salam Yakubu disclosed that the deal is close to completion, adding that he would provide details about his decision at the appropriate time.
“I’m selling New Edubiase United. 70 per cent of the deal has already been completed. I will tell my story at the right time,” he said.
New Edubiase United has over the years gained recognition for developing young talents who have gone on to feature prominently in Ghana and abroad.
In 2012, the club won the MTN FA Cup after defeating AshantiGold and subsequently represented Ghana in the CAF Confederation Cup.
That same year, New Edubiase produced the Ghana Premier League top scorer, Emmanuel Baffour, while midfielder Mumuni Abubakar was named the Sports Writers Association of Ghana Player of the Year.
The New Edubiase-based club was relegated from the Ghana Premier League in the 2015/16 season after finishing bottom of the table with 19 points.
The club has also developed several notable players, including Latif Anabila, winner of the Ghana Premier League Promising Player of the Year award in 2015, as well as Asiedu Attobrah, Abeiku Ainooson, Ebenezer Ofori, Ibrahim Moro, and twins Fuseini Nuhu and Alhassan Nuhu.
