Women in Oil, Gas, and Green Transition, in partnership with Women and Youth in Oil and Gas (WYIOG) has dedicated its Presidential Industrial and Green Energy Talent Initiative to Emeritus Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, a renowned Ghanaian inventor and industrialist.
They described the move as a tribute to his contribution to African engineering, innovation, and industrialisation.
A statement issued by WYIOG said the initiative had received the support of the presidency and forms part of efforts to build technical capacity and create sustainable employment opportunities in Ghana’s energy and industrial sectors.
It said the executive board of directors, under the strategic leadership of Dr Eric Eliason, had completed the structural framework for the presidential initiative, which sought to develop industrial and green energy talent across the country.
The statement said the project has been implemented with the endorsement of President John Dramani Mahama and coordinated through the Office of the Chief of Staff and the Secretary to the President to ensure alignment with the government’s national development agenda.
It noted that although it was awaiting the Ministry of Energy to implement the funding and commitment directive issued by the president, work on the project had already commenced.
“Baseline training and infrastructure development activities are currently underway as part of efforts to ensure the timely implementation of the initiative,” it added.
As part of the project, WYIOG announced a media partnership with Kantanka TV to provide nationwide coverage of the initiative, highlighting African-engineered solutions, renewable energy technologies, and industrial innovation.
The statement said the project would culminate in a graduation ceremony during which a new cohort of trainees equipped with mechanical, safety, and technical energy skills would be unveiled.
It added that the graduates would be trained under ISO-certified protocols and were expected to contribute to Ghana’s industrial and green energy transition while carrying forward the legacy of Emeritus Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka.
National President of WYIOG Abundant Hayford Aggrey said the project had gathered significant momentum following the decision of the executive board and the support received from the Presidency.
She expressed confidence that despite the pending administrative rollout of funding from the Ministry of Energy, the initiative had already made significant progress and would produce a skilled workforce capable of supporting Ghana’s industrialisation and green transition agenda.
“The movement has already taken off with immense strength. Our upcoming Graduation Day will centre 100 percent around the legacy of Emeritus Apostle Kwadwo Safo Kantanka, as we unveil a skilled workforce ready to drive our nation’s green and industrial transition,” she added.
