NDC secured funds for Planting for Food and Jobs – Party

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has claimed credit for government’s flagship Planting for Food and Jobs programme.

According to the party, it secured funding from Canada for the programme before it exited office in 2016.

Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku revealed this at a public forum organised by Coalition for Restoration on the Assessment of President Akufo-Addo’s three years in office in Accra.

He noted that the supposed feat chalked under the Planting for Food and Jobs programme is palpable false.

Hon. Eric Opoku explained that the bumper harvest cannot be attributed to the success of the programme since government in 2019, imported 5000 metric tonnes of maize to boost local production.

“6.4 percent growth in the Agric as stated by the President in the State of the Nation Address is false,” the Asunafo South MP stated.

Hon. Opoku said an NDC government will do things differently to revamp the ailing agric sector.

“The agric sector is stagnating under Akufo-Addo in spite of huge investment” he added.
