The Ghana Police Service says it has commenced investigations into allegations of physical, emotional and economic abuse involving Rosemond Akua Adobea, popularly known as Nana Akua, and her husband, Harold Norman.
In a statement issued by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the Police said it received a petition from Rosemond Akua Adobea on August 20, alleging that her husband had subjected her to various forms of abuse.
The Police said preliminary investigations revealed that a case involving the couple had previously been handled by the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) of the Lakeside and Ministries Police Stations in July 2026.
Following the petition, Harold Norman was arrested at his residence on August 27 to assist with investigations.
According to the Police, a caution statement was subsequently obtained from him, after which he was granted police enquiry bail with two sureties on August 29 while investigations continued.
The Police said the suspect was scheduled to appear before court on Wednesday, October 7, but his lawyer informed investigators that he had been admitted to hospital and was therefore unable to appear.
Investigators from DOVVSU have since visited the hospital to verify the claim, the statement said.
The Police added that they are monitoring the situation to ensure that the suspect is arraigned immediately after his discharge from the hospital.
The CID further disclosed that it is working with the Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection to provide social welfare services for Rosemond Akua Adobea and her children.
The Police said it remains committed to protecting victims of domestic violence and ensuring that complaints brought before the Service are investigated professionally and fairly.
