A Ghanaian Professor, Fred Maclory, is currently leading a team of students, health professionals and other professors to invent ventilators to aid in Ghana’s fight against the coronavirus disease.

According to him, he has available a functioning prototype which has been tested and looking forward to a large scale production.

“We have a positive prototype ventilator and have spoken to some people at Korle-Bu to secure dummies so we can try on them,” he said.

Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem about his intervention, he explained his decision to embark on the invention stems from the inadequate ventilators worldwide to combat the deadly disease.

He also revealed it will cost about GH¢ 5,000.00 to acquire the needed materials for one complete ventilator.

He added that the team had begun engagements with stakeholders who they believe can support and promote their large scale production.

“We have had engagements with the Ministry of Health since some of the team members are also active health workers and Dr Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng has also shown keen interest,” he said.
