President John Dramani Mahama has urged newly sworn-in Ministers Mahama Ayariga and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings to uphold the principles of accountability, transparency and integrity as they take on their new responsibilities.
He also encouraged the two ministers to remain accessible to the public, pay close attention to the concerns of citizens and ensure that their decisions are guided by the law, fairness and the broader public interest.
Mr Ayariga and Dr Agyeman-Rawlings were sworn into office on Saturday, August 29, after Parliament approved their nominations on Friday, August 28.
Mr Ayariga has been assigned to lead the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, while Dr Agyeman-Rawlings assumes responsibility for the Ministry of Environment, Science and Technology.
Speaking at the swearing-in ceremony, President Mahama reminded the new ministers that their appointments came with high expectations from the Ghanaian public.
He noted that Ghanaians expected more than the mere occupation of public offices, stressing the need for ministers to deliver tangible results while demonstrating strong ethical standards.
“Let me remind you that the Ghanaian people expect results, they expect integrity, accessibility and accountability. They expect public officials to listen to them and act with urgency, so be firm where firmness is required. Be fair where fairness is required but always remember to remain humble.
“Listen to professional advice, respect the institutions under your leadership and ensure that public resources are managed prudently. Let every decision you take withstand the test of legality, fairness, and public interest,” he urged.
