President John Dramani Mahama has sworn in Mahama Ayariga as Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs and Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings as Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
The two ministers took their oaths of office during a ceremony held at the Jubilee House on Saturday, August 29, 2026.
Their swearing-in followed Parliament’s approval of their nominations on Thursday after they appeared before the Appointments Committee for vetting.
The ceremony officially ushers both ministers into their respective roles as part of ongoing changes within President Mahama’s administration.
Mr Ayariga has moved from his position as Majority Leader in Parliament to head the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, while Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings takes charge of the Environment, Science and Technology Ministry.
Speaking after the administration of the constitutional oaths, Mr Ayariga assured President Mahama that he and Dr Zanetor had taken note of his expectations and would work towards delivering on the mandate entrusted to them.
“I want to assure you that we have listened carefully to your indication as to exactly what you expect of us as ministers of state and how you expect us to execute the assignment. I want to assure you that we will do exactly that,” he said.
Mr Ayariga further said the President’s style of governance and emphasis on engaging directly with Ghanaians would inform their approach to their new responsibilities.
“We will work to realise the commitments that you made to Ghanaians in your promise to reset the country when you campaigned in 2024,” he said.
President Mahama, in turn, tasked the newly sworn-in ministers with demonstrating accountability, transparency and integrity as they assume their respective portfolios.
He also urged them to work diligently towards delivering on the government’s commitments to the Ghanaian people.
