Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi, has formally authorised his lawyers to receive a writ filed against him by Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin over alleged defamatory statements.
The development comes days after Mr Afenyo-Markin disclosed in Parliament on Monday, August 24, that he had commenced legal action against Mr Gyamfi over allegations of extortion.
At the time, however, the writ had reportedly not yet been served on the GoldBod CEO.
Through his solicitors, Ayine & Partners, Mr Gyamfi has written to the Registrar of the High Court, General Division, Accra, notifying the court that his lawyers have been authorised to accept service of the writ and all related processes on his behalf.
The notice, dated August 26, 2026, is titled: “Notice to Accept Service of Writ on Behalf of the 1st Defendant in Osahen Alexander Afenyo-Markin v. Samuel Adu Gyamfi and Anor.”
It was signed by Seth Nyaaba, Solicitor for the first defendant, on behalf of Ayine & Partners.
The lawyers said they had received “express instructions and authority” from Mr Gyamfi, who is the first defendant in the case, to accept service of the writ of summons and other originating processes.
They therefore asked the court to take note that the documents could be served on Mr Gyamfi through their chambers at Ayine and Partners, House No. C809/29, 1st Close Lily Street, East Legon, Accra.
The solicitors also requested that the court’s records be updated to reflect the arrangement.
The latest development adds to the growing legal and political dispute between Mr Afenyo-Markin and Mr Gyamfi, which has attracted public attention.
Mr Afenyo-Markin, who is also the Member of Parliament for Effutu, announced on Monday that he had sued Mr Gyamfi and other parties over statements he considers defamatory.
The Minority Leader has rejected the allegations made against him and said he would use the appropriate legal channels to defend his reputation.
Mr Gyamfi’s decision to have his lawyers accept service of the writ does not constitute an admission of the claims contained in the suit. It simply confirms his readiness to receive the court documents through his legal representatives.
The formal acceptance of service is expected to facilitate the commencement of the substantive proceedings once the writ and accompanying documents are duly served.
