A member of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has given a staggering revelation about why the former Minister for Youth and Sports, Elvis Afriyie Ankrah cannot be prosecuted by any government.

According to Kwame Baffoe, former President John Mahama, in accordance with Article 280 of the 1992 Constitution issued a White Paper on the report of the Commission which investigated issues during Ghana’s participation in the 2014 World Cup in Brazil.

He said the White Paper will make it difficult for any government to prosecute Mr Ankrah.

“This single act by John Mahama has made it impossible to prosecute Afriyie Ankrah and he [Mahama] wants to be president again?” he quizzed.

The Justice Dzamefe Commission in March presented to President Mahama the report on the findings of Ghana’s botched 2014 Brazil World Cup appearance.

Ghana exited the tournament in the first round after picking just a point from a maximum nine. There were reports of player indiscipline, some of which degenerated into fights as well as government’s failure to pay the appearance fees of the footballers on time.

In the end government had to fly over 3 million dollars to settle the appearance fees of the players, a conduct that reduced Ghana to global ridicule.

A three-man Commission was constituted by the president to investigate the circumstances surrounding Ghana’s shameful performance at the 2014 World Cup.

After several months of investigations, the Justice Dzamefe Commission recommended that the three members, including Mr Afriyie Ankrah, who were members of the project committee that lifted supporters to Brazil, refund over $30,000 to the State.

But, Mr Baffoe on Adom FM’s morning show, Dwaso Nsem programme, Friday said Mr Mahama stopped them from paying the money.

Abronye DC, as he is popularly called, stressed that, the NDC cannot tag the Akufo-Addo government as corrupt because their track record “stinks.”
