Asante Kotoko will play five home matches behind closed doors after deciding not to appeal against the charges levelled against them by the Disciplinary Committee of the Ghana Football Association.

The Porcupine Warriors have been charged on four counts of misconduct in respect of fans’ matchday three encounter against Berekum Chelsea at the Baba Yara Stadium last Sunday.

The violence saw one fan sustaining an injury after a police officer allegedly shot him in the eye.

Kotoko will also pay a fine of ¢10,000.

The affected games are against Ebusua Dwarfs, Liberty Professionals, AshantiGold, Bechem and Elmina Sharks.

Chief Executive Officer of the club, George Amoako speaking to Nhyira FM on the decision of the DC, appealed to the FA to reduce the ban.

“What happened at the Stadium is totally unacceptable and we can only apologise to all stakeholders over what has happened,” Mr Amoako told Nhyira FM.

“We will appear before the FA and apologise and plead for mitigation.

“The behaviour of the supporters was not good but we will take steps to ensure these things do not happen again, both internally and externally.

“It is not good for Asante Kotoko but this is a human institution and we will take measures to ensure this does not happen again,” he added.

Kotoko have won two and lost two matches after four games in the league.

They are currently ninth on the standings with six points.
