Former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has rejected allegations that he was involved in the misappropriation of GH¢55 million, describing the figure as a propaganda tool with no basis in the investigations against him.
Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosii Sen show after his release from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO), Mr. Aboagye insisted that the amount being circulated publicly did not reflect the facts of the case.
“The facts are there. I was told I was being investigated over GH¢2.5 million, so where from the GH¢55 million? It’s a propaganda spin,” he said.
Mr. Aboagye recounted the circumstances leading to his arrest, explaining that he had travelled abroad briefly and had even left his vehicle at the airport because he intended to return within a short period.
He said both he and his lawyers were unaware of any fresh invitation from EOCO before his arrest.
“I even parked my car at the airport because I knew I was coming back soon. When I got to the airport on my return, I was told my name was on a stop list. There was no invitation for me from EOCO. I had already honoured their first invitation, so I was shocked. It wasn’t as though I was hiding,” he stated.
“I asked my lawyers if they had received any invitation from EOCO because I hadn’t, and they hadn’t either,” he added.
Mr. Aboagye stressed that he had no objection to EOCO investigating a petition or conducting an audit but questioned the manner in which he was treated during his detention.
“For me, there is nothing wrong with the petition EOCO received or the audit. My problem is whether this is how Ghanaians should be treated.
“I saw my lawyers on Monday afternoon. From Saturday to Sunday, I was in the same clothes,” he said.
He further argued that the figures being circulated were inconsistent with the audit findings, noting that the total amount involved in the organisation’s operations was significantly lower than the amount being attributed to him.
“Throughout the entire period, it was GH¢33 million for the entire organisation, so GH¢55 million is a non-starter. During the COVID period, there was no funding from government to the organisation,” he stated.
Mr. Aboagye was released from EOCO custody on July 14, 2026, after meeting his GH¢50 million bail conditions.
EOCO said his arrest at the Kotoka International Airport formed part of investigations into the alleged misappropriation of about GH¢55 million during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
