Aide to the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) 2024 presidential candidate, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has been released from the custody of the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) after meeting his GH¢50 million bail conditions.
Mr Aboagye regained his freedom after satisfying the bail requirements imposed by the anti-graft agency following his arrest over ongoing investigations into alleged financial and procurement-related irregularities.
His release comes after his legal team raised concerns over what they described as stringent bail conditions, arguing that it would be difficult to meet the requirements within a short period.
Mr Aboagye was arrested by EOCO at the Accra International Airport.
According to the anti-graft agency, the arrest is linked to investigations into the alleged misappropriation of about GH¢55 million during his tenure as Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD).
EOCO has not disclosed the specific arrangements under which the bail conditions were eventually met.
Investigations into the alleged financial and procurement irregularities remain ongoing.
