The Inspector General of Police (IGP) David Asante-Apeatu has directed the Criminal Investigations Department (CID), to begin an investigation into a shooting incident at Ankaful Junction in the Central Region on Thursday.

A 38- year-old woman met her untimely death after she was hit by a stray bullet during the shootout with her husband and a 15-year-old girl identified as Cecilia Mensah who was standing by the road side waiting for a vehicle to take her to school also hit by a stray bullet and currently receiving treatment at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital.

In a statement signed by ACP David Eklu, Head of Public Affairs, the police indicated that the investigations would take a period of three weeks after which the CID will present a complete report on the issue to the Inspector General of Police.

DSP Irene Oppong, the Central Regional Police Public Relations Officer (PRO), explained that on January 10, 2019 at about 6:30am, the Praso Police team had information while on patrol duties that a BMW saloon car with registration number GT. 4523 J was being used by suspected armed robbers in an operation.

The Police, following the tip-off, pursued the suspected armed robbers and upon reaching the Police barrier at Praso and Jukwa, the robbers sped through the barricade nearly knocking down a Police man in the process.

However, Police managed to arrest two of the suspects; Joseph Quansah, 36 and Daniel Ewusi, 32 with 7 live goats and 5 dead ones.
