Adekunle Gold has revealed that genotype compatibility was one of the things he considered seriously before marrying his wife, Simi, as someone living with sickle cell disease.
The Nigerian singer, who has been vocal about sickle cell awareness, said his own experience with the condition influenced the decision.
Adekunle Gold has previously spoken about the severity of the crises he suffered growing up, revealing that there were periods when he did not expect to live long enough to see adulthood.
Having experienced those challenges himself, he knew not to knowingly put his future children at such risk.
Speaking about their relationships, Adekunle Gold explained that he and Simi checked their genotypes when they met and established that they were compatible even before dating.
Simi is AA, Adekunle Gold disclosed, adding that the result was important to him as he considered marriage and starting a family.
“I wouldn’t have married my wife Simi if she were SS or AS. She’s AA. I don’t think it makes sense to bring a child into this world and make them go through all that.”
