Member of Parliament for Ayawaso West Wuogon and Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, John Dumelo, has wished the three finalists of the 2026 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ) well ahead of today’s grand finale.

Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC-Legon), St Augustine’s College and Accra Academy will compete for the coveted NSMQ title at the University of Ghana’s Premier Dome at 3:00 pm.

Speaking ahead of the contest, Mr Dumelo extended his best wishes to all three schools but jokingly predicted that Accra Academy would not emerge victorious.

“Accra Academy will not win,” he said, adding humorously that the school “doesn’t fit.”

Accra Academy is making its maiden appearance in the NSMQ grand finale, having secured a historic place among the top three.

PRESEC-Legon, an eight-time champion, is returning to the final after a two-year absence as it seeks to claim a record ninth title.

St Augustine’s College, which has won the competition twice, will also be aiming to secure its third NSMQ championship.

Despite his playful prediction, Mr Dumelo acknowledged Accra Academy’s impressive run and said the school could still pull off an upset during the final.

He also expressed delight that the NSMQ grand finale was being hosted again in the Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency.

Describing the development as “good” and “great,” he said he hoped the constituency would continue to attract other major national events.

Mr Dumelo, however, declined to make any commitments to the competing schools or students, joking that his “money finish” and he was therefore no longer in a position to make promises.
