Manhyia South Member of Parliament Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah has voluntarily surrendered himself to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) to assist with ongoing investigations into alleged financial and other offences.

EOCO said the MP, who is also Senior Partner of Sarkodie, Baffour Awuah and Partners, reported to its headquarters at about 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 1, 2026.

In a statement, the Office said his voluntary appearance followed several months of efforts to secure his attendance for questioning in connection with investigations into allegations of criminal conspiracy, financial loss to SIC Savings and Loans, money laundering and tax-related offences, among other matters.

EOCO said after his arrival, it commenced the applicable investigative and operational procedures, following which Mr Baffour Awuah was placed under arrest.

The Office, however, stressed that the MP is currently cooperating with investigators as the process continues.

“Mr Baffour Awuah was subsequently placed under arrest and is currently cooperating with investigators as the investigative process proceeds,” EOCO said.

The development follows a High Court warrant issued on September 30 authorising the arrest of the MP after EOCO told the court it had exhausted reasonable means of securing his voluntary attendance.

Mr Baffour Awuah had earlier maintained that he had not ignored any invitation from EOCO and said he would honour such an invitation if he received one.

Following confirmation that an arrest warrant had been issued, he voluntarily presented himself to the Office before the warrant was served.

EOCO said it would continue its investigations professionally, independently and in accordance with due process.

It added that investigators would pursue all relevant lines of inquiry, examine available evidence and ensure that all persons involved are afforded their constitutional and legal rights.

The Office has urged the public to allow the investigative and judicial processes to proceed without speculation or premature conclusions about the culpability of any individual.

EOCO said it would provide further information when it is appropriate and legally permissible to do so.
