German Ambassador to Ghana Frederik Landshöft has praised Ghana’s ability to maintain unity despite its diverse religious, cultural, and political identities, saying it is something Germany and Europe can learn from.

Speaking at a reception to mark Germany’s National Day in Accra, Ambassador Landshöft said Ghana’s ability to accommodate different identities peacefully stands out at a time when many societies are becoming increasingly divided.

“What continues to impress me is Ghana’s remarkable capacity to hold different identities together in peace,” he told guests at the event.

The reception, held at the ambassador’s residence on September 30, was organised ahead of Germany’s National Day, also known as the Day of German Unity, which is celebrated annually on October 3.

Reflecting on Germany’s reunification, Ambassador Landshöft noted that unity should never be taken for granted, particularly at a time when war has returned to Europe and global uncertainty continues to grow.

He said Ghana and Germany share several values, including democracy, international cooperation, and a commitment to a rules-based international order, making the two countries natural partners.

The ambassador also highlighted the growing cooperation between the two countries in areas such as technical and vocational education, youth development, and economic cooperation.

He noted that Germany remains one of Ghana’s key bilateral partners in technical and financial cooperation.

“Germany is ageing. Ghana is young. Germany needs skilled people. Ghana needs opportunities for its young population. That is why more than twenty German public and private institutions already work with Ghanaian partners in TVET, bringing one of Germany’s particular strengths—our dual vocational training system—into our cooperation.”

The celebration featured performances showcasing both German and Ghanaian culture. Guests were entertained by a Ga cultural troupe, musician Okyeame Kwame, and music duo DopeNation.

The event brought together representatives from government, the diplomatic community, business organisations, and civil society, underscoring the longstanding ties between Ghana and Germany.
