Hot audio: I thank God when people who look like an insult, insult me – Otabil

Pastor Mensa Otabil has used Sunday sermon to publicly react to news of the collapse of Capital bank which his church, the International Central Gospel Church, had shares.
“The reality is, there are people when you are down, they feel up” he told the congregation in a sermon about facing reality which he defined as “when you hear stuff you don’t want to hear”.
One news the head pastor has not been happy was the withdrawal of the licence of Capital Bank Monday after it was diagnosed as severely distressed.
Otabil who is CEO and consultant of Otabil and Associates had 3% stake in the bank while ICGC which he founded also had 3% shares.
Since the collapse, the Bank of Ghana has said it is investigating the board of the defunct bank and its top management. Their accounts have also been frozen, the central bank has said.
While state institutions take up the matter, social media has been awash with trolls poking fun at one of Ghana’s most influential pastor and statesman.
Others have also criticised the man of God questioning why Capital bank sunk under the watch of the leadership and entrepreneurship guru.
Wearing his iconic heavy African dress, the motivational speaker admitted, he has had a tough week. Pastor Mensa Otabil laughed it off in church with an observation that “people who look like an insult to themselves are insulting you”.
“And you say wow, thank you, Lord, for mercy. For giving him grace to insult you because if God had not given them permission they would not insult you”.
He explained the motivation for people who rejoice in the misfortunes of others is because they have little to show for in life.
“They are happy that somebody is down, because they have been down for so long that when you are down they feel like they have climbed”.
“Sometimes, people you have helped will kick you when you are down, people you have encouraged will kick you when you are down”.
He said Christians must watch their thoughts and take hold of their minds in times of difficulty lest they go about blaming others for a misfortune.

  1. Pastor, the Christ you are preaching went through more difficult times or situations than this but He insulted no one. This is why those of you in the clergy must not be sounding partisan

  2. I am glad the may of God finally broke his silence. Let those who are happy at Capital Banks’ misfortune gloat but that takes nothing away from the achievement of Rev. Otabil.
Capital Bank may be down today but let’s not forget Merchant Bank of yesterday and how it got dubiously sold to family and friends of some Ghanaians. We should also be probing into all other Banks in Ghana, mor particularly the state owned ones.

  4. It’s amazing how some people are taking Pastor Otabil’s misfortune as a joke, My Father Otabil is not down and will not go down. The man of God is blessed all over the world, and people are not known even the area they are.
Let them count their blessings and subtract from papa Otabil’s blessings and they will be shocked of is left the true man of.
Oh why should some men of God jubilate even Job who lost everything, had it back unlike pastor Otabil who still have enough. The Bible says who so ever dig a pit shall fall in it they will fall over night.
Great papa Otabil go go go higher.

  5. At least for Pastor Otabil’s calling he still does it well, so if he tried something aside and it didn’t work I see it as nothing at all. We all sometimes try some business ideas and we eventually foldup because it didn’t work the way we thought.

  6. Hmm. How can a human being created by God in his own image look like an insult. This is not not not from such an experienced man of God you. Followers and offering givers deserve something better. God have mercy.
