Former Vice Chancellor of the University of Professional Studies Accra, (UPSA) Professor Joshua Alabi touts his achievements at the university ahead of his bid to become flagbearer of his party.
According to him, his tenure saw the university become a world class one.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen political talk show on Monday, Prof Alabi attributed the success to discipline, resolve to succeed and contribution of students in general, despite what he describes as the emergence of some pockets of challenges.
“There was a time students didn’t want to pay fees. There were demonstrations during my tenure as Vice Chancellor but I was able to intervene [manage],” he said.
“After the second year, these students came together to contribute GHC10 each every year like 10 years ago just to support me to build the school and that is why I said I created a world-class school before retiring,” he added.

According to Prof. Alabi, UPSA made strides, citing the improved academic performance of students as one of them.
UPSA students recorded 51.93 percent above the global average of 51.37 % above the American average of 51.29 percent in Peregrine Academic Service’s Outboard Exams in 2014, an independent online test for business and accounting educational institutions globally.
Prof Alabi also cited improvement in the infrastructure of the school, with the corresponding increment in student population, from 1,187 in 2005 to over 12,000 in 2016 as a result of what he called visionary and pragmatic leadership.

“We have also been able to transform the physical environment into one of the most ultra-modern campuses in Ghana. Today, UPSA has a 6,000-capacity lecture hall complex, a 6-storey ICT mediated library with a seating capacity of 1,600 at a go,” he said.
He revealed his administration paid in full cost of projects it embarked upon and left behind unprecedented amount, in excess of GH 16 million in the school’s accounts.
