A group calling itself Police Wives Association (POLWA) is appealing to the government to grant their husbands the mandate to shoot and kill armed robbers.
A Police officer was shot dead when an arm-wielding gang stormed the Atomic Hill Police station in Kwabenya, Accra, to free suspected armed robbers who were in custody at the station last Sunday.

In the process, six remand prisoners, identified as Dickson Ofori, Chubuzor Chubuzor, Edem Rockson, Emmanuel Kotey, Prince Osei, Kofi Darko and Atta Kwadwo were freed.
According to the PRO for POLWA, Mamaga Sotsimede Adziwie, following the recent killing of security personnel in the country, they fear for the safety of their husbands anytime they leave for work.

POLWA is therefore appealing with the government to lessen the interdiction law so they can easily engage in a fire-for-fire battle with armed robbers when the need be since they are in a state of fear and panic.
“If the police kill an armed robber they are placed on interdiction for so long. If I am here and you attack my husband, I will attack you too. If my husband is not able to kill an armed robber I will kill him myself if I have the chance to hold the gun…” she said.
Listen to Mamaga

Mamaga further disclosed that, criminals are taking advantage of the friendly nature of the police hence the government must come in to equip the police to boost their morale.
Mamaga maintained that, “Our husbands are dying. We are holding on with our demonstration. The police don’t have the tools and instruments to work. One of my younger kids asked me what if her dad doesn’t come back. They are scared; the way they are dying, we don’t know the next person will be…” she cried.
Meanwhile, some of the widows of police officers called on the government to implement proper measures since they are only considered by the state when their husbands die in line of work.
“If their lives are at risk then they should fire. We are scared and suffering. If they don’t return from work then our blood pressure goes up. Some of them don’t even have cars to go to work. We want to be treated well…” one of them said.
