An angry officer of the Ghana Police Service has threatened to lead junior ranks in the service to stage a massive demonstration against their superiors and the government.
The demonstration, the angry police officer who pleaded anonymity said on Adom FM’s Morning Show, ‘Dwaso Nsem’ Monday, is to protest the bad conditions of service of the junior ranks.
“The junior rank in the police service will demonstrate against the government if we fail to hear any positive news from the government…enough is enough,” the police officer threatened.

The outburst of the police officer was in reaction to the killing of a chief inspector by armed robbers at the Atomic Hill Police Post at Kwabenya in the Greater Accra Region.
A Police officer was shot when a gang stormed the Kwabenya District Police headquarters to free suspected armed robbers who were in custody.
The shot police officer has been identified as Emmanuel Ashilevi believed to be in his 40s.
Seven prisoners who were on remand, identified as Dickson Ofori, Chubuzor Chubuzor, Edem  Rockson, Emmanuel Kotey, Prince Osei, Kofi Darko and Atta Kwadwo also escaped from lawful custody.

And the death of the Police Officer, the Junior Officer said, could have been averted if the police service is well resourced to deal with crime in the country.
“There are lots of logistics that we need, but we are not given; risk allowance has been taken from our wages and we even lack logistics…the senior ranks do not think of our welfare, they only think of intimidation…when we are promoted, it takes a lot of time for that to reflect but when we are suspended, it takes immediate effect,” he bemoaned.

The lack of protection for the junior ranks in the Police Service, the officer said, is the cause of the numerous deaths of officers in uniforms in recent times.
“We don’t have enough protection, soldiers are more protected than us. Every policeman is becoming a politician because the ranks are linked to various political parties…,” he said.
The angry police officer alleged that criminals are also being recruited into the service in recent times by these politicians; an action which he believes is diluting the professionalism of the service.
He also called for the interdiction of the regional and district commanders, arguing that their failure to act led to the death of Chief Inspector Emmanuel Ashilevi.
“The regional and district commanders should be on interdiction…it is the failure on their part to act that has led to the death of the police officer…why should you detain 7 notorious criminals in one cell? They should have been separated into several cells,” he fumed.

  1. Comment: the same situation is happening in Teshie cells and you dare not talk about it as a junior rank. you will be hated by the commander forever. over 10 robbery suspect kept in one cell. day in day out the they keep adding up. God have mercy

  2. Why don’t the senior officers die ??is it not only the junior ranks who die in line of duty, that tells you the work is done by the men; what the police authority know is ‘charge’, when it comes to that they are swift to do it.
Senior police officers sit in their air-conditioned vehicles, offices fully armed at all times and even with gaurds and yet they don’t see to the well fair of the men, they are only happy when a junior officer get a problem.
The police would always say the officer should be civil to everyone and yet the to them it’s normal when they act brutally on their men.
An institution where it workers cannot open their mouths to say anything and yet we call this a service

  3. Institution whereby you only take instructions you don’t have mouth to talk.. Go to the to the police amoury and the quarter masters uniforms, body Armour everything is there but not been giving out to the personnels have to buy if you want some. Common handcuffs not all personnel have it. And those who have it half of them bought it. And the same senior officers tells us police aqutroments is not for sale.. Too look nice in the police uniform meaning you have to find means of buying your own uniforms, boots and etc. And you want this people to work efficiently when out there.

  4. This only shows in incompetence of the Police top brass. It’s simple Police procedures in many jurisdictions not to keep group of hard criminals on remand all in one cell or location. Our Police Service is in shambles. If hooligans can storm a court and free suspects and virtually go free with just a fine what then do u expect.

  5. Politicians only care about the police when it is election year. After elections, they dump us. Surely, that day is coming when the true men of the service will wake up and act, just to tell the senior officers and the politicians enough is enough. We can’t continue to die like chickens when our condition of service is nothing to write home about. That day will come oooo yoooo!

  6. Good morning my brother. May the good Lord bless you for the good programmes ATINKA FM is doing, especially (Ghana Nie). I want to give you some information l got which is going on in the Ghana police service concerning the police external operational duties centers perform by some of the policemen such as Bawku,Yendi,Kumasi, Boli, Bimbilla Tamale, Alavanyo and Bungkrugu ration of 5gh cedis per head instead of 15gh cedis per head for a day. My brother l want you to use your good morning programme Ghana Nie to ask the PRO of GPS to find out whoever is in charge of that section that, where the remaining 10gh cedis goes, and ask if he or she can survive on 5 gh cedis a day this days?. Due to these cheating on some of the policemen, that lead them to do what is not expected of them to do on their duty tour. As you know, (a hungry man is always an angry man.) I don’t think IGP or any of his schedule officers will do that ,so l am appealing to IGP and his schedule officers to look into this matter for the operational men at these operational centers l did mention above and rectify the issue for them. Because it pains for someone to devote him/herself to work diligently for his/her country and cheated by someone. l know you are capable of handling these cases out of identify the informant or the writer. Thank you. Friend’s of police.

  7. The very CONTENT of the police force must be looked at. First, make bribery in the police force an anathema. Then we need persons of very high calibre in intelligence and training and very highly motivated with everything to lose, and so much to look forward to, so to speak. Persons well read and can think on the spot, security conscious, akin to or closed to fictional characters through very rigourous scientific training, literally. Persons very liberated, technologically savvy , flamboyant and exuberant and highly disciplined and confident in a security-conscioud way ; always with active and problem solving minds; to meet goals, targets and deadlines and beyond. The State, NOT governments, should look at its priorities again and invest HEAVILY in the police force to attract the calibre of personnel am attempting to describe here, from the universities and other high institutions, enriched with international exchange programmes; yes, attract the right calibre, with sanity and toughness of mind, and VISIBLY ARM them to the TEETH; SIMULTANEOUS with these bio-data of every soul in the country, including especially DNA samples, must be kept in a security databank and linked with other layers of information- locations, habits, social identify, idiosyncrasies, probable tendencies etc. The returns on such an investment will be great: Assurance of SECURITY, SAFETY, CONFIDENCE and INVESTMENT. If I find myself in a position of authority this must be a MUST.

    CAC:
This is a tragedy. Interdependence and collaboration in the exchange of information and certain intelligence purposes fine.
But to send them to your training depos and other relevant centres that serves as the nerve centre of our policing service, is a collaboration in the wrong direction. The policing system in both countries are different in so many ways to the extent that, not even100 A4 rims write ups put together will solve our policing problems.
This is another waste of tax payers money, creating jobs for two police officers who have reached thier retirement age, selling unnecessary write up on paper that will allow the Ghanaian police apron string constantly attached to that of the UK, with eye watering wages for them, and the idiots who put this useless venture together.
Why? Because our government is short sighted, surrounded incompetent men, and being advised by thief’s who sees no difference that, this is not going to achieve anything but another drain on state coffers.
The question I pose is, have they addressed the agitation brewing in the police services in Ghana?
How have they addressed the problems provided by the Police before importing foreign breeds with no local knowledge to assist a local one? Or anything foreign is the holy grail or the a magic pill?
How many Police officers will be invited to this event for cross fertilisation of ideas? Non because the seat will be filled by good for nothing politicians who lacks every knowledge in Policing but will be quick to sign on the dotted line for another painful prescription that will only worsen our plight.
Tax payers money will be used to accommodate, transport, entertain, feed and a parting gift for this unfortunate mishap.
Ghana, our leaders are becoming our mis-leaders and my heart bleeds.
Good afternoon comrades, and I pray for some unimaginable miracles.

  9. Hmmmm it’s said to hear such things happening in our beloved country, how can a robber gather confidence and storm a police regional headquarters as far as killing an officer and freeing criminals?, I believe they did that with an insider giving them infos. All this is happening because the right people are being rejected during recruitment and the fake ones are rather recruited, God have mercy upon our Ghana

  10. Good afternoon Mr president, if nothing could be done very short possible time, the MCE of Kumasi Asawase and Ashanti Regional police Commander COP /Mr Ken Ye Noah will let the blood flows at Aboabo Ala-Bar Tamale station in Kumasi. Thank you Mr president

  11. I support this brave Police man. All what they know doing is to intimidate you with charge. A senior officer looked at Some grouped Junior ranks and asked when will all this junior ranks die before it gets to him? This means knowing we are the foremen they don’t care. But time is due for action

  12. Oh National security and Ghana police service it’s very shame on you to give 5ghs each to police external operational men as their daily cash ration and even men at Ashanti Akim Agogo are not receiving a pesewa for even toilet roll. What is minister of interior and the head of National Security are there for? Mr president open your eyes or els the head of these departments will pull you down in 2020 Election. Thank you
