Ghanaian musician Guru has revealed that he would prefer to enter mainstream politics on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) when he decides to pursue a political career.
The rapper, however, stressed that he is not rushing into politics, explaining that contesting for political office requires careful preparation beyond simply declaring an intention to run.
Speaking in an interview on Adom FM, he educated that political ambition must be backed by proper groundwork, especially when attempting to unseat an incumbent or compete against a party that controls a constituency.
“If I want to contest, nothing can stop. At the right time I will, but now, I am laid back watching the political scene. For MP, everyone can run for it, but to win is where the issue is. Going against party in power is difficult and winning is about how acceptable your dominance and aura is”
In view of this, Guru said he is currently observing the political landscape while preparing himself mentally and strategically for any future political move.
Constituencies he could consider making a bid includes Ayawaso West Wuogon, Nkoranza South, Nkoranza North and Darkuman.
He explained that his choice of these areas is based on his long-standing association and familiarity with the communities.
On why he chose the NPP, Guru elaborated that the aforementioned constituencies are traditionally strongholds of the NPP, making it easier to win if he decides to pursue the ambition.
