The Chief Justice, Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, has directed all courts in the Greater Accra Region to suspend sittings on Tuesday, July 28, and Friday, July 31, 2026, to allow judges and magistrates to take part in activities marking the 150th anniversary of the Supreme Court.
The directive, issued through a notice by the Judicial Service of Ghana, applies to all judges and magistrates within the region.
According to the Judicial Service, the temporary suspension of court proceedings is to enable members of the bench to fully participate in the climax and thanksgiving events scheduled as part of the anniversary celebrations.
The main anniversary ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at the Ohene Konadu Auditorium of the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA), while the thanksgiving service will be held on Friday, July 31, at the Accra Ridge Church.
The Judicial Service described the celebrations as a significant milestone in the history of Ghana’s apex court and encouraged judges and magistrates to participate fully in the activities.
The Supreme Court’s 150th anniversary celebrations were launched on April 16, 2026, with a series of programmes aimed at commemorating the court’s contribution to Ghana’s justice system and its role in upholding the rule of law over the years.
