A Fire Officer who was injured in the cause of fighting the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) Large Tax Office fire had to be rushed in a Nima Police Command’s van as there was no ambulance at the scene.

Commander of the Nima Police Division, ACP Abraham Aquaye, who was at the scene of the fire since morning told Adom News that there was no ambulance to convey the injured firefighter to the hospital after he was given first aid by the Red Cross team.

The fire fighter whose name is not yet known was rushed from the flaming building with a cut on the left leg.

ACP Aquaye said “the smoke was too dim that an officer from the GNFS got injured but unfortunately there was no ambulance to convey him, I had to give my command car out so he can be rushed to the hospital…,” he said worriedly.

The GRA Large and Medium tax office at Assylum Down, near the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange in Accra was gutted this morning at about 8:00 am.

The GNFS had to call for reinforcement to help bring the fire under control after about two-and-half hours of fighting.

The cause of the fire is not yet established.

Meanwhile, the fire is under control and the Police with the assistance of some GRA staff have secured documents that did not burn at the Nima Police Station while some have been locked up in a store room near the GRA office.

ACP Abraham Aquaye added that body-checks were conducted on every staff or personnel who got access into the facility to make sure no one took advantage of the fire to take away valuables from the building.
