One of the most sensational and inspirational reggae/dancehall artistes in Ghana, AK Songstress, has said Ghanaians don’t appreciate her works like abroad hence she thinks they believe in showering praises than talents.

AK Songstress at the weekend won the best female dancehall artiste of the year award at the Ghana Naija Showbiz Award 2017 held in Lagos in Nigeria.

She beat dancehall artistes such as Cynthia Morgan, MzVee and Kaakie to win the highly contested award.

But known in private life as Akosua Kwakye, the dancehall artiste said she produces original but international dancehall songs unlike the Ghanaian Afro-dancehall music, reason she thinks those abroad raise the value of her songs than Ghanaians.

She added that regardless the feeling, she still continues to switch to and fro between the two genres to make her work purposeful in order to reach her respective fans both home and international.

“Ghanaians are difficult to understand music and talent. We believe in hype than talent. I have learnt Ghanaian way so I do it for Ghanaians too. I believe in originality. …” she said in an interview with host KMJ on Daybreak Hitz on Hitz FM.

“Outside Ghana, people appreciate my works more. I do the real dancehall. Ghanaians have their dancehall. We call it the Afro Dancehall. I have got the original dancehall to my music. My music is very much appreciated out there…” she added.

The best Female Dancehall Artiste of the Year further said her zeal, demeanor, energy and style as an original dancehall artiste makes her unique than the rest, reason she doesn’t fume too much when compared to others believed to be on the same level with her.

“The more you’re compared to other artistes it means you’re relevant. If someone is picked over you or vice versa its good, there’s nothing like bad publicity…”

“I came in with the originality so much energy and a style. I perfected my style as an energetic performer and that’s what makes me unique…” she noted.

The ‘Rock Ur Body’ hitmaker revealed she will be launching her fifteen-track video album in November or December as she urges her fans to keep their fingers crossed to embrace it.

“My album launch will be in November or December, it is a fifteen track video album. I like to set records you know” she maintained.
