The Ga North Municipal Assembly has announced plans to demolish a public toilet facility under construction near the Pokuase Interchange, following concerns over safety and possible health risks.
The facility, which has attracted public criticism due to its location and structure, has been abandoned for the past six months after the Assembly identified safety concerns.
Some residents who spoke to Adom News expressed worry that completing the project in its current state could pose a danger to users and residents, potentially turning into a death trap and a health hazard.
The Municipal Chief Executive for Ga North, Akwetey Agbo, said the Assembly has directed that the structure be pulled down to prevent any possible harm.
He explained that the project was being undertaken by a private contractor and that the Assembly did not commit public funds to the construction, meaning the decision to demolish it would not result in financial loss to the state.
Mr. Agbo added that the Assembly would continue to ensure that development projects within the municipality meet safety standards and serve the interest of residents.
