Rescue teams from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) have been deployed to several flood-hit communities following heavy morning rains that caused significant flooding in parts of Accra and surrounding areas.
Affected locations include Ningo, Miotso, Ridge Hospital, Kasoa, Gomoa Nyanyano, and Tema New Town, among others.
The downpour has severely disrupted Monday morning activities, with major roads submerged and traffic brought to a near standstill in many areas.
The Tetteh Quarshie Interchange is heavily choked, while the stretch under the rail line overpass from the Spintex Road roundabout (near Action Chapel) towards the Polo Grounds and Hajj Village area is completely flooded.
In the south-western part of Accra, commuters on the N1 Highway from Kasoa through Weija and Mallam are facing serious difficulties as floodwaters have taken over portions of the road.
Other affected areas include Abeka, Lapaz, Achimota, Dzorwulu, Tesano, Tantra Hills, Atomic in Madina, Kaneshie, Darkuman Junction, and sections of the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange.
In several low-lying communities, homes and shops have been inundated, forcing residents to move their belongings to safer locations as water levels continue to rise.
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has also issued an alert confirming flooding in parts of Accra and Tema, advising residents to remain vigilant and avoid flood-prone areas.
Emergency teams are currently working to assist affected residents as the situation continues to unfold. Motorists have been urged to exercise extreme caution and avoid driving through flooded roads.
