One person has been rescued and rushed to the Ngleshie Amanfro Polyclinic after six individuals were reportedly swept away by floodwaters at Dokutsekope in the Awutu Senya East Municipality of the Central Region.

A member of the community, Emmanuel, who spoke to Adom News, said the whereabouts of the remaining individuals are still unknown.

He explained that floodwaters have risen to the level of residential buildings, displacing residents and forcing many to flee their homes.

The situation in nearby Gao Line and Kpormetey is also reported to be severe, with residents experiencing similar flooding challenges.

Rescuers have been relying on canoes to access and assist victims trapped in flooded homes as water levels continue to rise.

The incident follows heavy rains that began late on Sunday, June 28, and continued into the morning of Monday, June 29, 2026, which triggered widespread flooding across parts of the capital and surrounding communities.

The downpour left several major roads submerged, disrupted traffic flow, and stranded commuters. Low-lying areas and key arterial routes were particularly affected, with motorists either moving slowly through flooded sections or abandoning routes entirely.

The heavy rainfall, which lasted for several hours, significantly affected the Monday morning rush hour, leaving residents struggling to commute to work and school amid waterlogged streets and severe traffic congestion.
