All 28 clinical suspected cases of Covid-19 in the Eastern region have tested negative at the Noguchi Memorial Institute.

Three out of four contact tracing cases have been ascertained and tested but results have been negative.

According to the Eastern regional emergency health committee, a total of 33 returnees from outside the region have been identified but samples of only three of such returnees who came from Greater Accra, Greater Kumasi, Kasoa and Tema have been taken and tested. 

The results proved negative.

Since last Sunday, workers of the St Joseph Hospital in Koforidua and residents were in fear when seven nurses, a physician assistant, pharmacist and a record staff at the St Joseph Hospital were quarantined after they attended to a suspected Covid-19 case at the facility.

They were kept at the Out Patient Department of the hospital and the place has been Cordon off after they attended to a suspected case at the hospital.

According to sources, the suspect is a rotational nurse at the St Joseph hospital and showed symptoms of the virus over the weekend and reported to the hospital.

She was examined and blood sample taken to Noguchi for test. It was also learnt she received a parcel from China two weeks ago.

Sources at the hospital say, the lady is responding to treatment while others who have been quarantined including her fiancee are also doing well.

Meanwhile, medical director of the hospital Dr kupualor said results from Noguchi proved that the suspected case was negative.

The quarantined staff would be counselled and discharged.

Meanwhile, Member of Parliament for Abuakwa South and Minister of Works and Housing, Hon Samuel Atta-Akyea and Pinamaa Foundation have donated a thousand bottles of hand sanitisers, liquid soaps tissue and Veronica buckets among other safety wears to the Municipal Health Directorate to be distributed to the various health facilities in the municipality.

In the New Juaben South Municipality, Chairman of the Finance Committee in parliament and Member of Parliament for New Juaben South Constituency, Dr Mark Asaibey Yeboah also donated 200 bottles of hand sanitisers and a check amount of GH¢ 20,000.00 to the Municipal Health Directorate to support front-line health workers within the Municipality.

Dr Yeboah said, additional Veronica buckets would be supplied to the health directorate for onward distribution to all the health facilities in the municipality.

At Abuakwa South Municipality, Director of Health Service, Madam Augustine Nartey, was optimistic that, the safety supplies would help manage the spread of the virus in the area.

She, however, requested for a temperature gun for all the health facilities within the municipality.
