Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States of America, Baffour Adjei Bawuah, has disclosed that 33 Ghanaians have died from the deadly novel Covid-19 in the state of New York so far.

According to him, there are efforts underway to mass up support for Ghanaians in the country amid the pandemic.

“Quite a number of Ghanaians have been affected and indeed we have 33 people who have been verified to have died from the disease in New York alone,” he said.

Speaking in an interview on Accra-based GhOne TV, the ambassador said about 300 Ghanaians who are stranded in the US have requested for assistance to return home.

“We started a programme to raise a million dollars to support Ghanaians citizens here and at home. We are compiling the list of those in need of the support to ensure they really need it,” he noted.

He noted that students were now living with host families, adding that has put a bit of pressure on those families.

He added that the embassy was reasonably certain that by the end of this week, it would have been able to relay to the US government enough [information] for those people to be brought home.
