The Minister for Energy and Green Transition, Dr. John Jinapor, has assured Ghanaians that government is actively working to resolve recent power supply challenges that have led to outages across the country.

He emphasized that restoring stable and reliable electricity remains a key priority, stressing government’s commitment to ensuring uninterrupted power for all citizens.

Dr. Jinapor acknowledged the inconvenience caused, saying the administration deeply empathizes with the public as efforts continue to stabilize the situation.

Addressing a press conference in Accra on Monday, April 27, he announced that two generation units at the Akosombo Dam have been restored, adding about 280MW to the national grid.

“I am determined to work with the team to overcome these challenges. Despite the loss of Akosombo, all the other plants are running, but it leaves a major deficit. I wish to assure you that I deeply empathize with you. We never saw it coming, we never anticipated, but we will rise above this,” he stated.

He further noted that a third unit is expected to be operational soon, contributing an additional 140MW, with all six units projected to be back online by the end of the week.

“The first generation unit was successfully installed yesterday. The second unit has also been brought and is generating power. The third unit is undergoing installation,” he added.
