The National Council for Children and Youth Development (NaCCYD) has condemned the alleged inappropriate relationship involving a teacher and a final-year student of Bole Senior High School, describing the incident as deeply troubling and a serious breach of the trust placed in educators.
In a statement, the council said it had taken note of reports and a widely circulated video allegedly involving a teacher of the school and a student, expressing grave concern over the development.
NaCCYD stressed that teachers occupy positions of trust, authority, and responsibility and are therefore expected to uphold the highest standards of professional and ethical conduct at all times.
The council also welcomed the swift action taken by the Ghana Education Service (GES) to interdict the teacher pending investigations, describing the move as a demonstration of accountability and a commitment to protecting the integrity of Ghana’s education system.
It called on the GES, law enforcement agencies, and other relevant stakeholders to conduct a thorough, impartial, and transparent investigation into the matter to establish the facts and ensure appropriate action is taken in accordance with Ghanaian laws and regulations.
According to NaCCYD, the incident underscores the urgent need to strengthen child protection policies, professional ethics education, guidance and counselling services, and safeguarding mechanisms within educational institutions.
The council emphasised that schools must remain safe spaces where students can learn, grow, and achieve their full potential free from exploitation and inappropriate conduct.
NaCCYD further urged parents, school authorities, policymakers, civil society organisations, religious leaders, and the general public to work together to promote the welfare, protection, and development of children and young people across the country.
The organisation reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for the rights, safety, and wellbeing of every child and young person in Ghana.
