The family of the late former Member of Parliament for Sawla-Tuna-Kalba, Joseph Trumah Bayel, has expressed profound gratitude to President John Dramani Mahama for his timely intervention in resolving issues that had delayed the release and burial of the late legislator.

The family had earlier appealed to President Mahama, the Inspector-General of Police, and the Minister for the Interior to assist in facilitating the release of the former MP’s remains after months of uncertainty and delays.

Speaking to Adom News, a family representative, Joseph Tangba Ollo, said that after several unsuccessful attempts to resolve the matter through various channels, the family turned to the media to amplify their concerns through a public appeal.

“After several months of frustration and unsuccessful efforts to secure the release of our late brother’s body for burial, we decided to appeal through Adom News. We are deeply grateful to President John Dramani Mahama for listening to our cry and acting swiftly. His intervention brought all stakeholders together and helped resolve the impasse peacefully,” Mr Ollo said.

According to him, following the publication of the family’s concerns by Adom News, President Mahama directed a delegation made up of officials from the Bureau of National Investigations (BNI) and other security agencies to engage the family and relevant stakeholders to find a lasting solution.

Mr Ollo explained that extensive consultations involving the presidential delegation, the Savannah Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive, traditional authorities, and family representatives resulted in a consensus to allow the late MP to be buried at his residence in Tuna.

“The President’s intervention brought relief to the family and paved the way for the funeral arrangements to proceed peacefully. On behalf of the entire family, we sincerely thank him, Adom News, and everyone who played a role in ensuring that our beloved Joseph Trumah Bayel can finally be laid to rest with dignity,” he added.

The family has extended its appreciation to President Mahama and Adom News for their roles in helping resolve the long-standing impasse.

Mr Ollo further appealed to government officials, political leaders, friends, and benevolent individuals to support the family as they prepare to give the late former MP a befitting burial.

“We humbly appeal to government officials, political leaders, friends, and well-wishers to support the family as we prepare for the funeral. The late Joseph Trumah Bayel served his people and his country diligently, and we believe he deserves a befitting farewell. Any assistance towards the funeral arrangements will be greatly appreciated,” he appealed.

He emphasised that such support would help ensure a successful funeral and preserve the legacy of the late legislator, who dedicated his life to the service of his constituency and the nation.
