The remains of a 30-year-old electrician, identified as Razak Gideon, have been retrieved at Nsuo Na Ano (Peace Town) in the Ga South Municipality of the Greater Accra Region.

Gideon was reportedly swept away by the overflowing Agyei River while attempting to rescue a 17-year-old BECE graduate who had been trapped in floodwaters at Atia, also in the Ga South Municipality.

His remains were found on Wednesday morning, June 10, near a bridge in Nsuo Na Ano.

An eyewitness, Kwaku Ankomanin, said the deceased was at work when the incident occurred and attempted to save the stranded teenager.

“The deceased was an electrician who was at work. He attempted to rescue someone who had been trapped in the floods. There were two, but one was able to swim out, leaving him. We found his remains this morning. He’s in his 30s,” he said.

Meanwhile, a former assembly member of the area, Zakari Ali, has called for stricter enforcement against individuals who have constructed buildings in waterways, which he says are obstructing the free flow of water and worsening flooding in the area.
