Chairman of Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, Alex Kofi Agyekum

The referees have been urged to be fair

Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Youth, Sports and Culture, Alex Kofi Agyekum has cautioned officiating officials of the Normalisation Special Competition to be fair in the field of play.

According to the Mpohor Member of Parliament,
the referees have only the field to demonstrate to the world that they are
ready and also helping the Normalisation Committee to normalise the game in
Ghana.

He indicated that the referees should come clean and disregard any negative incident that had happened in the past.

“If you are a referee and you have past
grievances, you can opt out, you shouldn’t bring your past experience into this
new thing we are doing,” he cautioned.

“This game (special competition) we have
started, anything that will cause its destruction must be prevented right from
the onset,” he added.

There have been several problems with
officiating since the Special Competition kicked off; FIFA referee, Theresa
Brememsu, and Charles Bulu have suffered assault from Prisons Ladies and Accra
Lions supporters respectively.

Also, teams such as AshGold, Kotoko,
Aduana, Hearts of Oak and Berekum Arsenals officials have complained bitterly
about officiating after Match-Day 5.
