The Church of Pentecost in the Sefwi Essam-Debiso Area has launched a blood pressure monitoring initiative to help address rising cases of hypertension in the Bia West and Bia East districts.

The intervention, which is the first of its kind in the area, is aimed at promoting regular health screening and encouraging early detection of high blood pressure among church members and the wider community.

As part of the rollout, selected members have been trained to monitor the blood pressure of congregants during church services, with the church also providing blood pressure machines to support the exercise across its assemblies.

Speaking to Adom News, the Area Head, Frank Awuah Fordjor, said the initiative reflects the church’s commitment to the physical well-being of its members, beyond spiritual growth.

He noted that many people are unaware of their blood pressure status, making routine checks critical in preventing complications associated with hypertension.

The Bia West District Health Director, Oxygen Gershion Wullar, commended the church for the initiative, describing it as timely and impactful.

He urged other religious organisations to adopt similar interventions to support public health efforts, especially in communities where access to regular screening remains limited.

Meanwhile, Elder Boah Johnson, Adjofua District Central Presiding, speaking on behalf of members, welcomed the initiative and praised church leadership for the intervention.

He described the programme as beneficial and necessary in addressing growing health concerns in the area.

The initiative is expected to improve awareness, promote preventive healthcare practices, and contribute to reducing the burden of hypertension in the districts.
