Sub-chiefs and members of Asafo companies in the Agona Kwanyarko of the Central Region have demonstrated against the chief of the town, Dr. Nana Ampem Darko V for allegedly altering terms of royalties paid to the town by the Ghana Water Company.

According to them, the chief has also ban Asafo companies from performing their activities in the town.

“We don’t want him anymore. There are no jobs in town and we are tired as a result. We want work to do. If you talk against him, the police will be called to arrest you. We own the town; we don’t want the chief anymore…” they yelled.

The Omankrado of Agona Kwanyarko Nana Asare Panin (IV) in an interview with Adom News’ Kofi Adjei said Nana Ampem Darko has become an autocratic leader and also harassing them with police anytime they disagree with him on issues confronting the town.

Nana Asare Panin further called on the minister of chieftaincy to come to their aid else the chief will arrest all of them.

“There has not been any developmental project here. Nsaba has constructed all their roads, but with us, our king has issues with all MPs and DCEs that were appointed.

“He uses the police to threaten us. He doesn’t forgive and so we won’t forgive him too. He has changed terms with regards to the aid that supports our developmental projects. We won’t hail him anymore…” he said.

Listen to some angry sub-chiefs

But the chief of Agona Kwanyarko Dr. Nana Ampem Darko has denied all the allegations leveled against him.

He disclosed that, he has never been to the police to report for the arrest of anyone in the town adding that he doesn’t know any policeman even the District Commander of the town.

“What the sub-chiefs are saying is false. The land is for all of us. The royalties are taken in purpose for some land arrangements. I came to meet the terms. I haven’t talked to any policeman. I have not been to any of the police stations. I don’t even know the commander et al at the police station…” he noted.
